GMAT, GPA, & TOEFL

Q: How long are GMAT scores valid?

A. Ross will keep GMAT scores on file for two years. Test scores are valid for five years from the date you took the test to the deadline date when you apply; scores more than five years old are not acceptable. We encourage you to take the GMAT no later than one month prior to the application deadline, and preferably earlier. If you take the test close to an application deadline, we ask that you to include an unofficial score report with your application if it is available.

Q. What is the minimum GMAT required for admission to the MBA program?

A. There is no minimum score requirement, but the middle 80% of our admitted students scored between 640-760. The average score of admitted students was about 700. Please keep in mind that your GMAT scores are only one of a number of criteria we review in determining admission. If your scores are below our average or do not fall within this range, we still encourage you to apply. You may, however, want to consider retaking the GMAT to improve your score.

Q. How long will it take for my GMAT scores to be sent to Ross after I take the test?

A. Academic institutions generally receive scores within 10 business days after the test is given. It has been known to take longer, so allow plenty of time.  If you are uncertain as to whether we will receive your official scores by the deadline, you can upload your unofficial score via your online application, fax your unofficial score report to our office at 734-763-7804 or send it via the postal service to 701 Tappan, Room E2540, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109-1234.

Q. What is the GPA requirement for applying to the MBA Program?

A. There is no minimum GPA requirement.  Most admitted students have GPAs of 3.3 and above.

Q. What is the minimum TOEFL required for international students who apply to the MBA Program?

A. If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate competence in English with a score of 600 or higher on the paper-based test (PBT), 250 on higher on the computer-based test (CBT), or 100 or higher on the internet-based test (IBT).  If your score is below these numbers, we encourage you to consider retaking the exam.  The code to have scores automatically sent to Ross is 9585.

Q. Are there instances in which I wouldn’t be required to take the TOEFL?

A. Applicants whose native language is not English and who have earned a degree from a U.S. school or an institution abroad where the curriculum is exclusively taught in English are exempt from the TOEFL requirement. Those who have worked in the U.S. full-time for two or more years in the five years prior to application are also exempt from the TOEFL requirement.

Q. How long are TOEFL scores valid?

A. Scores may be submitted from tests taken no more than two years prior to the application deadline date. For example, if you are applying for our October 10, 2008 deadline, you must have taken the TOEFL between October 10, 2006 and October 10, 2008.
