Why Supply Chain Management?
Supply chain management touches every function of global commerce: marketing, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, inventory management, information technology, and customer relations. It’s not simply a tactical function; it’s a business function. It’s about the people, processes, and technology that propel products through the global economy.
Now more than ever, companies need innovative leaders with the vision and skill to manage the entire life cycle of goods and services. Companies are seeking leaders with backgrounds in engineering, economics, information science, systems analysis, and other fields who have the specialized knowledge to hit the ground running and solidify the company’s long-term competitive advantage.
The Ross School's Master of Supply Chain Management Program (MSCM), ranked No. 2 in the nation, delivers those leaders. Students in our program learn from Ross' world-renowned faculty in operations and management science, as well as top-ranked researchers in all business disciplines. MSCM students are admitted to the Tauber Institute for Global Operations, a partnership between the Ross School and U-M's College of Engineering. In addition, students develop ties to industry through the MSCM Corporate Advisory Council, a consortium of senior executives and decision-makers for Fortune 100 and 500 companies. Upon graduation Ross alumni join a network of more than 40,000 business school graduates and half a million University of Michigan alumni around the world.
