Paid Summer Project

A distinctive feature of the Ross Master of Supply Chain Management program is the integration of the paid summer project into your curriculum. All Master of Supply Chain Management students are admitted to the Tauber Institute for Global Operations, an innovative University of Michigan Institute that draws upon the resources of both the Ross School and the University's College of Engineering. Each Master of Supply Chain Management student will be part of a team executing a paid summer project with faculty supervision. In the Winter, you will prepare for an assignment developed in concert by faculty, a corporate sponsor, and the Tauber Institute so that you and your peers can hit the ground running, arriving at your internship site as a cohesive team skilled in communications and project management. During the summer, your team will work on site to address a real-world business challenge identified by your sponsor.

Example of past project sponsors include:

3M, Advanced Micro Devices, Alcoa, The Boeing Company, Dell Computer Corporation, Eastman Kodak, Eli Lilly & Company, General Electric, General Motors Corporation, Harley Davidson, Hewlett-Packard, Intel Corporation, McKinsey & Company, Merck Incorporated, Whirlpool Corporation and Xerox Corporation. For a full list please visit the Tauber Institute.

Spotlight! Scholarship Competition

Upon project completion, all teams return to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete in the annual Spotlight! scholarship event. Each team presents its project results to corporate representatives, students, alumni and faculty. Judges from the industry evaluate projects on the basis of scope, implementation, impact, overall presentation skills and other criteria to determine the winners.

Drawing diverse attention from industry, this event showcases innovative solutions that can potentially save corporations millions of dollars. Spotlight! offers an excellent opportunity to establish relationships with students, expand a corporation's university presence and gain exposure to new ideas.
