The University of Michigan attracts global leaders in many fields including medicine, life sciences, law, and engineering. Transportation
Public transportation is accessible and often free for students. Several area attractions are within walking distance of campus, and Detroit Metro Airport is about 30 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor.
The Arts
Ann Arbor enjoys an international reputation for its robust music and performing arts scene. Fans of concertos and garage bands can each satisfy their interests. The University Musical Society brings artists such as Itzhak Perlman and Wynton Marsalis to town and hosts the only U.S. residency of England’s Royal Shakespeare Company.

You can find whatever you want to eat (or cook) in Ann Arbor. Quality ethnic cuisine abounds, and there’s no shortage of high-end restaurants. A word to the wise: If you leave Ann Arbor without going to Zingerman’s Delicatessen, you’ll never have the pleasure of discovering everything a sandwich can do for you.
Outdoor Recreation
Fans of the great outdoors can bike along miles of scenic trails, kayak down the Huron River, explore Nichols Arboretum, or take advantage of Ann Arbor’s many golf courses.
