Career Development
The Office of Career Development (OCD) offers career
counseling and workshops to prepare students who wish to change
jobs upon completion of the program for a successful career
search. OCD is committed to working with students to help
realize their career goals. A portfolio of resources is
available to assist students throughout the program.
OCD manages an extensive on-campus interviewing program and
coordinates iMpact, a database of employer information and an
online networking service. A comprehensive on-campus recruiting
program attracts an impressive array of firms, representing all
business and industrial sectors. OCD is also a valuable starting
place for an off-campus search. Employers worldwide regularly
call to post job leads and request résumés of qualified
candidates to fill open positions. In addition, each year,
hundreds of corporate presentations take place at the main
campus, giving students the opportunity to make valuable contacts
with industry representatives.
During the spring term, OCD conducts registration for Evening
MBA students who plan to graduate the following year and intend
to participate in on-campus recruiting. Once registered,
students have access to individual counseling, mock interviews,
recruiting forums, and on-campus recruiting. Registered students
also have their résumés included in an MBA
résumé book, which is sent by OCD to prospective
employers interested in Michigan MBAs.
Although on-campus recruiting and individual counseling
services are limited to Evening MBA students in the last year of
the program, all Evening students can participate in employer
presentations and have access to the alumni network, iMpact, OCD
career handouts, videotapes of OCD workshops, and a wealth of
corporate literature and career information available in the
Career Center in the Business School's Kresge Library.
Examples of the types of information available at the Career
Center to assist students with career and industry research
includes: Corporate Files (annual reports, recruiting brochures,
financial information), Counseling Rooms (with videotape
equipment for mock interviews), Career Information (copies of
résumé books from the last two years, alumni networking files,
and industry-specific guidebooks), and Electronic Databases
(electronic and CD-ROM databases such as Lexis/Nexis and Career
Search) to assist with career and industry research. These
resources are available to all students.
