Targeted Profile - Who Should Attend?
The Executive MBA Program is a highly interactive and demanding program
designed for senior to mid-career candidates who typically bring ten to
fifteen or more years of progressive managerial responsibility and a strong
potential for high level leadership positions in their current organization.
We seek to bring as much diversity into the classroom as possible across
industry, functional area and corporate representation. The typical cohort
of 60 will include candidates from a broad range of industries as well as
companies, including entrepreneurs as well as those from multi-national as well
as smaller, regional organizations. There will often be more than 55
organizations represented. From a geographic perspective, the typical class
will draw over fifty percent of participants from outside Michigan, traveling
from coast to coast as well as from abroad. Work experience with a strong track record of
achievement and growth is most indicative of a candidate's fit with the program.
The Executive MBA Program's curriculum offers a strong foundation in core
management disciplines, but is more strategic in focus compared to our full or
part-time programs, given the years of experience and knowledge of the
participants. The Executive MBA brings together participants and faculty
with diverse personal and professional backgrounds as well as varied points of
view. Using technology to augment the traditional face-to-face learning,
participants are able to engage in remote learning activities, including virtual
meetings with classmates and faculty, document sharing, and voice conferences.
As an Executive MBA participant, your curiosity will be challenged through
stimulating coursework and engaging group participation, including teamwork on
case analyses, presentations and special projects. In the end, you will
emerge with an education for a lifetime, rich in theory and real world relevance
to keep you ahead of the perpetually shifting demands of the modern business
world.
Admissions
Courses in management are not
required for admission, although students are expected to have a
satisfactory background in communication skills, computer applications
(including word processing and spreadsheets), and mathematics. The
GMAT is not required. Before enrolling, however, students must:
- Complete the equivalent of a
four-year US bachelor's degree. Accordingly, the Business School
reserves the right to review the academic records of applicants and to
determine whether the academic credentials presented from a non-US
institution qualify for consideration.
- Candidates whose native language
is not English must demonstrate fluency in English by taking the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
While a large number of candidates will be sponsored in full or in part
by their employers, financial sponsorship is not a requirement for
admission. We do expect, however, that each candidate be fully
endorsed and supported in the program in both developmental
opportunities as well as in recognition of the time commitments of a
demanding program.
Information on Financial Aid opportunities for both US and
non-US citizens is available under
the "Tuition
& Finances" section. Also included in this section is
scholarship information for candidates who work in the non-profit or public
sectors.
Complete details of candidacy are
included in the application packet.

It is challenging, it is
demanding. I don't think
there is any way you could do an MBA and
have a full-time job and a family and not be forced
to make some changes
and some sacrifices and
to work harder. But, this is probably the
most
conducive a program that I've seen. Conducive
to family life;
conducive to work-life balance, and to maximizing what you get out of
the program.
