  1. Prepare for Course Registration & Course Bidding: October 19 – November 7
  2. Course Bidding: November 8 - 13
  3. Backpack: November 16 - 22
  4. Modify/Finalize Winter Class Schedule: November 23 – January 10

Course Registration Timeline for Winter 2010

  1. Prepare for Course Registration & Course Bidding: October 19 – November 7 (return to top of page)

    1. Review Degree Requirements & Meet with an Advisor: Be sure you're keeping your degree requirements in mind as you head into Winter term - review your Academic Requirements on Wolverine Access, the degree requirements checklist, and/or make a counseling appointment to review your status.

      1. Required Core: All MAccs will need to register for TWO core courses in Winter 2010. You will NOT bid for either of these courses:

        • ACC 630.001: Auditing and Assurance (3.0 credit hours total, 1.5 credit hours each in Fall B and Winter A): meets Thursdays during Winter A from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Academic Services will automatically register you into ACC 630.001 (continued from Fall B).
        • ACC 625 -- Advanced Financial Accounting (2.25 credit hours): you will register yourself for one of the following Winter A sections during regular registration (November 23-25):

          • Section 001: Mondays/Wednesdays from 10:20 am – 12:40 pm (Winter A)
          • Section 002: Mondays/Wednesdays from 2:10 - 4:30 pm (Winter A)

During course bidding you MUST NOT bid for classes that conflict with ACC 630.001 or the section of ACC 625 for which you will enroll - or you will lose the class for which you bid.

      2. Additional Degree Requirements: In addition to the 3.75 credit hours of core MAcc courses above, you will also need to select at least one Designated Core from the following list of courses: ACC 620, ACC 640/650, ACC 711 (specific section - see below), ACC 713 (specific section – see below), ACC 725, BE 570 and Tax Law courses. If you waived out of any of the regular core during the MAcc, you will need to select at least two courses from this designated list. You should also select approximately 8.25 credit hours of electives (for a total of 15 credit hours).
        • ACC 711 – Financial Statement Analysis (2.25 credit hours): MAcc students should only register for ACC 711.020 on MW from 2:10 – 4:30 pm (Winter A). This section WILL NOT be available during the course bidding process. If you plan to register for this class, you will do so during the regular registration period (November 23-25).
        • ACC 713 – Business Forecasting and Equity Valuation (2.25 credit hours): MAcc students should only register for ACC 713.002 on MW from 2:10 – 4:30 pm (Winter B). This section WILL NOT be available during the course bidding process. If you plan to register for this class, you will do so during the regular registration period (November 23-25).

      3. Total Credits: Keep in mind that you will need to complete 30 credit hours between your Fall and Winter terms.

    2. Check Your Account for Financial Holds:
      1. Review your Student Account status on Wolverine Access to confirm that no Holds (Service Indicators) are in place which would block your registration into classes. Check even if you are sure your statement is okay!
      2. Clear your bills.
      3. Request Student Financial Operations or the cashier to lift your financial hold. This is not done automatically. Call 734-764-7447.
      4. Inform Academic Services at rossacadservices@umich.edu (before 2 pm on Friday, November 20) that your hold has been lifted. If you do not inform Academic Services that your hold has been lifted by this deadline, you will lose all bids.

    3. Review Course Bidding Information:
    4. Review the Schedule of Classes: On Monday, October 19 the Winter 2010 Schedule of Classes will be viewable on Wolverine Access and the Registrar's website. At that time we will post here a spreadsheet of the specific Winter 2010 courses that will be included in course bidding. (Meeting Dates Warning! Be sure to check the course schedule information CAREFULLY as you plan your course selection to avoid conflicts. If you bid for classes that conflict you will not be awarded both classes.)
      • Check prerequisites: You are responsible for meeting the course prerequisites for classes you elect. Check the Course Descriptions thoroughly for course prerequisites and feel free to reach out to an instructor if you have specific questions.
        • If a prerequisite is listed in the system as a "Course" prerequisite, Wolverine Access will NOT allow you to register for the course unless you have completed the requirements in a prior term. *Students who BID for classes for which they do not meet the course prerequisite will NOT be enrolled in that class and will lose their bids for that class.
        • If a prerequisite is "Advisory," Wolverine Access will allow you to enroll without having fulfilled the requirement; however, instructors reserve the right to remove you at a later (less convenient) date. Please review prerequisite information CAREFULLY, and contact the instructor/department or Academic Services if you have any questions.
      • Course Load: A normal, full-time course load is about 15 credit hours a term, with a maximum of 18 credits. You must select a minimum of 9 credit hours to be a full-time student. Going below 9 credits makes you a part-time student, which affects financial aid, degree progress, and (for international students) immigration status. To register for fewer than 9 credits in a term, you must request approval from Academic Services. In addition, students should not register for more than 10.5 credits in any half (A/B) term. To calculate your half term credits, divide any full-term class credits in half and add them to your half term courses.
      • Continuing Class: Remember that ACC 630.001 continues from Fall B into Winter A at the same day/time. Do NOT bid for courses that conflict with that day/time in Winter A or you will lose the class you bid for.

    5. Attend the Course Bidding Workshop for an overview of the course bidding system:
      • Monday, November 9, at 4:30pm in R2210

    6. Course Bidding: November 8 - November 13 (return to top of page)
      1. BID for classes! Sunday, November 8 at 10 am through Friday, November 13 at 10 am. Do NOT wait until the last minute - students should place their bids well before the 10 am deadline on November 13 to ensure that they are able to access the system and enter their bids successfully. Bids cannot be processed after the system has closed. (NOTE: If you are registered for ACC 630.001 in the Fall B term, do NOT bid for classes that conflict with the meeting day/time of this section in Winter A.) Be sure to refer to the following pages for more instructions/tips on course bidding:
      2. Continue to clear Financial Holds if any still exist.

    7. Backpack: November 16 - November 22 (return to top of page)
      1. View your assigned registration appointment time on Wolverine Access: November 16
      2. View awarded course bidding courses in Wolverine Access: November 16 - 20
      3. Backpack additional Ross or non-Ross classes: November 16 through assigned registration appointment time.
      4. Friday, November 20 at 2 pm: Deadline to clear Financial Holds and notify Academic Services.

    8. Modify/Finalize Winter Class Schedule: November 23 - January 10 (return to top of page)
      1. Monday, November 23: Registration appointment times begin for graduate students. Students will be able to modify their course schedules via Wolverine Access if desired (to add non-business school courses to your schedule, add yourself to waitlists for additional courses, drop courses awarded to you during course bidding, or add additional business courses with open seats).
      2. Add/Drop classes & obtain Permissions for closed classes: View the Registration Calendar as well as the Academic Calendar for the specific drop/add deadlines- paying attention to the different dates for full term (Regular), First 7 Wk, and Second 7 Wk classes. After the drop/add deadline, any drop must be accompanied by a completed Drop/Add Verification Form (available online and from Academic Services). View more instructions on modifying your schedule and getting permissions for closed classes at the below links:
      3. Be aware of Class Attendance Policies: At the discretion of the instructor, students may be dropped from a class if they do not attend the first class meeting for a once-a-week class, or the first two class meetings for a twice-a-week class. Be sure to review the CTools site for each class for additional attendance guidelines.
