Course Registration Timeline for Fall 2008
I. Return Cohort Response Form: July 15 - August
1 (return to top of page)
- DUE Friday, August 1: Return Cohort Response Form: Your first decision
regarding course registration is whether or not you want to participate
in the Cohort Program for your first two terms. The Cohort Program
option provides you with the choice of taking core classes as a group or
cohort with other Evening MBA Program students admitted in the same
term. This opportunity allows you to know a group of Evening MBAs very
well at the beginning of the program. Keep in mind that space in cohort
classes is limited, so respond early if you are interested. Cohort
Program responses will not be accepted after Friday 8/1.
-
Cohort Program Response Form: Please print, complete and fax to 734-763-7804
no later than Friday, August 1st.
-
The cohort courses for Fall 2008 are as follows:
- Ann Arbor Cohort: ACC 501.451 (Wednesday evenings) and BE
501.451 (Monday evenings)
- Commerce Park Cohort: ACC 501.461 (Tuesday evenings) and MKT
501.461 (Thursday evenings)
- Southfield Cohort: MO 501.471 (Wednesday evenings) and OMS
501.471 (Monday evenings)
II. Prepare for Course Registration: July 15 - August
4
- Cohort Participants: Students who opt into the Cohort Program
will be pre-enrolled by Academic Services into two Fall term core courses
(for a total of 6.0 credits) on or before August 4.
- Non-Cohort Participants: Students who choose not to
participate in the Cohort Program will have the option to register
for courses on Wolverine
Access starting August 5. Prior to August 5 we encourage you
to review the schedule of classes (see below) to determine what you are most
interested in taking. Keep in mind that new students MUST
register and complete at least one course in the first term they are
admitted. So be sure to register on August 5!
- Review Degree Requirements: Prior to any term, be sure
to review the Evening MBA program
curriculum.
Students can also review the Academic Requirements on
Wolverine Access, the
degree
requirements checklist, and/or make a
counseling appointment
to meet with an Academic Services staff member. Our staff are happy to hold appointments via
phone if you have difficulty making it to campus during the day - simply
schedule an appointment and then contact the counselor to let him/her
know you'd like to hold the appointment over the phone. Keep in mind
that:
- 60 Credits are required to complete the Evening MBA degree.
- Core Course Requirements: be sure to complete all of the following (ACC 501,
ACC 551, BE 501, BIT 551, FIN 551, MKT 501, MO 501, OMS 501, OMS
551, STRATEGY 503 & STRATEGY 601). It is recommended that students plan to take ACC 501 and OMS 501
early in their student career, as these core are prerequisites for other
core courses.
-
Core Course Waiver Information: Depending on your prior work
experience or education, you may be eligible to waive out of a
core course. Be sure to review the information regarding core
course waivers carefully.
- Law/Ethics Requirement: students admitted to the Evening MBA
program in Fall 2005 or later must complete ONE of the following courses:
- BA 512, LHC 504, LHC 506, LHC 507, LHC 508, LHC 509, LHC 511, LHC 512, LHC
513, LHC 514, LHC 515, LHC 516, LHC 517 or LHC 582.
- Communication Requirement:
Students must complete ONE of the
following two options:
- Complete any one of the following classes: LHC 520, LHC 521, LHC 522,
LHC 524 or LHC 560.
OR
- Pass the Communication Waiver Exam: Offered online in Summer
(July/August) and Fall (October/November).
Students must take the communication waiver exam
within the first three offerings available to them upon admittance.
Students admitted in Fall 2008 are eligible to complete the waiver
exam in Summer 2008, Fall 2008 and Summer 2009. If the exam is
not passed by Summer 2009, you will need to complete the
Communication requirement through coursework.
- The Summer offering of the Communication Waiver Exam
will occur July 21 to August 18, 2008.
- You may elect 500-level and above non-Business School courses at UM-Ann
Arbor (up to a maximum of 10 credits
throughout your MBA career). Courses from other graduate programs are listed in the University Time Schedule (http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/schedule/).
- Review the Schedule of Classes: Most incoming students start
the Evening MBA program by completing core courses. To determine what
courses are being offered and when, the Fall 2008 Schedule of
Classes is
viewable on Wolverine Access and the
Registrar's website.
Please note that on the
Registrar's website
you may download a CSV version of the schedule, which can be easily
filtered/sorted to just the Evening MBA sections. Sections numbered 451 -
459 (Ann Arbor), 461 (Commerce Park), and 471 (Oakland
County) identify the Evening MBA sections.
- Check prerequisites: Course Prerequisites: You are
responsible for meeting the course prerequisites for classes you elect.
Check the
Course Descriptions thoroughly for course prerequisites and feel free to
reach out to an instructor if you have specific questions.
-
If a prerequisite is listed
in the system as a "Course" prerequisite - Wolverine Access will NOT allow
you to register for the course unless you have completed the course in a
prior term.
-
If a
prerequisite is "Advisory", Wolverine Access will allow you to enroll
without having fulfilled the requirement; however, instructors reserve the
right to remove you at a later (less convenient) date. Please review
prerequisite information CAREFULLY, and contact the
instructor/department or Academic Services if you have any questions.
-
Credit Limits:
Newly Admitted Evening MBA students may not request a credit
limit increase above 7 credits in their first term. However, in
future terms, students who are in good academic standing may
increase their credit limit to 9 credits in Fall or Fall terms and up to 7 credits in
Spring or Summer half terms
according to the following guidelines:
- It may NOT be your first term in the
program;
- You must be in good academic standing, for which we expect at least
80% of your credit hours at PS level or higher;
- The additional
hours (from 7 to 9 in Fall/Fall or from 3 to 6 in Spring or Summer half terms) may NOT
be added before specified dates. We do this to allow some time after
registration opens for all students to have an equal opportunity to
register.
III. Register for Fall Classes:
August 5 - September 1
(return to top of page)
- Tuesday, August 5 at 8 AM: Registration opens for Evening
MBAs admitted for Fall 2008. Students will be able to add/drop courses via
Wolverine Access.
Continuing students will have access to register for additional credits
beginning August 11, so be sure to register for courses on or soon
after August 5.
- Cohort Participants: Note that if you responded by
August 1
to request participation in a Cohort, you will already have courses
registered for you and will not need to make any schedule
adjustments. If you decide later that you do not wish to participate
in the Cohort, please drop the courses from your schedule (using
Wolverine Access),
register for alternate courses, and notify Academic Services of your
decision (rossacadservices@umich.edu).
- Add/Drop classes & obtain Permissions for closed classes: View
the
Registration Calendar as well as the
Academic Calendar
for the specific drop/add deadlines. After the drop/add deadline,
students must submit a completed
Drop/Add
Verification Form to Academic Services and have a drop/add form
(University Election Worksheet) signed by Academic Services.
For more instructions on
modifying your schedule and getting permissions for closed classes:
**Remember: If you only have one class, and you want to change it for
something else, you may need to do the ADD first, then proceed with the DROP.
Otherwise, the system will think that your 'DROP' is a disenrollment (disenrolling
is when you decide to not take ANY classes during a full term), and it would not allow the transaction to
occur. In order to truly disenroll from the term, please email
rossacadservices@umich.edu
for assistance, but keep in mind that newly admitted students are
REQUIRED to complete at least one course in the first term.
- Be aware of Class Attendance Policies: At the
discretion of the instructor, students may be dropped from a class if they
do not attend the first class meeting for a once-a-week class, or the first
two class meetings for a twice-a-week class. Be sure to review the CTools
site for each class once you are registered for additional attendance guidelines.
IV. Attend Orientation:
Saturday, August 23 (return to top of page)
- Be sure to attend the
Orientation program on Saturday,
August 23!
