Course Registration Timeline for Winter 2010
I. Prepare for course registration: November 16 -
December 14 (return to top of page)
You will have the option to register for courses in
Wolverine Access starting
December 15. Prior to December 15 we encourage you to review the schedule of classes (see
below) to determine what you are most interested in taking. Keep in
mind that new students MUST register for and complete at least one course in
the first term they are admitted. So be sure to register on December 15!
- Review Degree Requirements: Prior to any term, be sure
to review the Evening MBA program
curriculum.
Students can also review the Academic Requirements on
Wolverine Access, the
degree
requirements checklist, and/or make a
counseling appointment
to meet with an Academic Services staff member. Our staff members are happy to hold appointments via
phone if you have difficulty making it to campus during the day - simply
schedule an appointment and then contact the counselor to let him/her
know you'd like to hold the appointment over the phone. Keep in mind
that:
- 60 Credits are required to complete the Evening MBA degree.
- Core Course Requirements: be sure to complete all of the following: ACC 501,
ACC 551, BE 501, BIT 551, FIN 551, MKT 501, MO 501, OMS 501, OMS
551, STRATEGY 503 & STRATEGY 601. It is recommended that students plan to take ACC 501 and OMS 501
early in their student career, as these core are prerequisites for other
core courses.
-
Core Course Waiver Information: Depending on your prior work
experience or education, you may be eligible to waive out of a
core course. Be sure to review the information regarding core
course waivers carefully.
- Law/Ethics Requirement: students admitted to the Evening
MBA program in Fall 2005 or later must complete ONE of the following courses:
- BA 512, LHC 504, LHC 506, LHC 507, LHC 508, LHC 509, LHC 511, LHC 512, LHC
513, LHC 514, LHC 515, LHC 516, LHC 517 or LHC 582.
- Communication Requirement:
Students must complete ONE of the
following two options:
- Complete any one of the following classes: LHC 520, LHC 521, LHC 522,
LHC 524 or LHC 560.
OR
- Pass the Communication Waiver Exam: Offered online prior to
the beginning of the Fall term in July/August. Students have
multiple opportunities to take the Communication Waiver Exam.
Students who do not successfully complete the waiver exam will need to fulfill the
communication requirement with course work prior to graduation (see the above list
of classes).
- You may elect 500-level and above non-Business School courses at UM-Ann
Arbor (up to a maximum of 10 credits
throughout your MBA career). Courses from other graduate programs are listed in the University Time Schedule (http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/schedule/).
- Review the Schedule of Classes: Most
incoming students start the Evening MBA program by completing core
courses. To determine what courses are being offered and when, view the
Winter 2010 Schedule of
Classes on Wolverine Access and/or the
Registrar's website.
Please note that on the
Registrar's website you may
download a CSV version of the schedule, which can be easily
filtered/sorted to show just the Evening MBA sections. Sections numbered 451
- 459 (Ann Arbor) and 471 (Oakland
County) identify the Evening MBA sections.
- Check prerequisites: You are
responsible for meeting the course prerequisites for classes you elect.
Check the
Course Descriptions thoroughly for course prerequisites and feel free to
reach out to an instructor if you have specific questions.
-
If a prerequisite is listed
in the system as a "Course" prerequisite, Wolverine Access will NOT allow
you to register for the course unless you have completed the course in a
prior term. If you have fulfilled a "course" prerequisite via a Course
Waiver, please contact
Academic Services for permission to enroll.
-
If a
prerequisite is "Advisory", Wolverine Access will allow you to enroll
without having fulfilled the requirement; however, instructors reserve the
right to remove you at a later (less convenient) date. Please review
prerequisite information CAREFULLY, and contact the
instructor/department or Academic Services if you have any questions.
-
Credit Limits:
Newly Admitted Evening MBA students may not request a credit
limit increase above 7 credits in their first term. However, in
future terms, students who are in good academic standing may
increase their credit limit to 9 credits in Fall or Winter terms and up to 7 credits in
Spring or Summer half terms
according to the following guidelines:
- It may NOT be your first term in the
program;
- You must be in good academic standing, for which we expect at least
80% of your credit hours at PS level or higher;
- The additional
hours (from 7 to 9 in Fall/Winter or from 3 to 7 in Spring or Summer half terms) may NOT
be added before specified dates. We do this to allow some time after
registration opens for all students to have an equal opportunity to
register.
II. Attend Orientation: Saturday,
December 5 (return to top of page)
- Be sure to attend the
Orientation
program on Saturday, December 5!
III. Register for Winter classes: December 15 -
January 10
(return to top of page)
- Tuesday, December 15 at 8 AM: Registration opens for
Evening MBAs admitted for Winter 2010. Students will be able to add/drop courses via
Wolverine Access.
Continuing students will have access to register for additional credits
beginning December 18, so be sure to register for courses on or soon
after December 15.
- Add/Drop classes & obtain Permissions for closed classes: View
the
Registration Calendar as well as the
Academic Calendar
for the specific drop/add deadlines. After the drop/add deadline,
students must submit a completed
Drop/Add
Verification Form to Academic Services and have a drop/add form
(University Election Worksheet) signed by Academic Services.
For more instructions on
modifying your schedule and getting permissions for closed classes:
**Remember: If you only have one class, and you want to change it for
something else, you will need to use the SWAP function in
Wolverine Access (for directions, see the Student Business Help Menu
link described below). Otherwise, if you try to drop and then add, the
system will think that your 'DROP' is a disenrollment (which it is,
because you only have one class), and it will not allow the transaction
to occur. In order to truly disenroll from the term, please email the
University Registrar’s Office at
ro.registration.questions@umich.edu (before the first day of the
term) or Academic Services at
rossacadservices@umich.edu
(on or after the first day of the term). Be sure to include your UM ID
number. Keep in mind, though, that newly admitted students are
REQUIRED to complete at least one course in their first term.
- Be aware of Class Attendance Policies: At the
discretion of the instructor, students may be dropped from a class if they
do not attend the first class meeting for a once-a-week class, or the first
two class meetings for a twice-a-week class. Be sure to review the CTools
site for each class once you are registered for additional attendance guidelines.
