Course Registration Timeline for Spring, Summer and Fall 2008

I. Prepare for Course Registration: February 13 - March 18 (return to top of page)

  1. Review Degree Requirements & Meet with an Advisor: Be sure you're keeping your degree requirements in mind as you prepare for any upcoming term; review your Degree Progress Report on Wolverine Access, the degree requirements checklist, and/or make a counseling appointment to review your status. Our staff are happy to hold appointments via phone if you have difficulty making it to campus during the day - simply schedule an appointment and then contact the counselor to let him/her know you'd like to hold the appointment over the phone.
    • 60 Credits are required to complete the Evening MBA degree.
    • Core Course Requirements: be sure to complete all of the following (ACC 501, ACC 551, BE 501, BIT 551, FIN 551, MKT 501, MO 501, OMS 501, OMS 551, & STRATEGY 601).  It is recommended that students plan to take ACC 501 and OMS 501 early in their student career, as these core are prerequisites for other core courses.
    • STRATEGY 503: World Economy is a required core course for students admitted to the Evening MBA program in Fall 2005 or later.
    • Law/Ethics Requirement: students admitted to the Evening MBA program in Fall 2005 or later must complete ONE of the following courses:
      • BA 512, LHC 504, LHC 506, LHC 507, LHC 508, LHC 509, LHC 511, LHC 512, LHC 513, LHC 514, LHC 515, LHC 516, LHC 517 or LHC 582.
    • Communication Requirement: Students must now complete ONE of the following two options:
      1. Complete any one of the following classes: LHC 520, LHC 521, LHC 522, LHC 524 or LHC 560.
        OR
      2. Pass the Communication Waiver Exam: Offered online in August and November. Effective Fall 2005, students must take the communication waiver exam within the first three offerings available to them upon admittance. Those students whose first term was Fall 2006 or earlier are no longer eligible to take the waiver exam and must complete the requirement with course work prior to graduation.  Students admitted in Winter 2007 or Fall 2007 are eligible to complete the waiver exam in August 2007, November 2007 and August 2008; students admitted in Winter 2008 are eligible to complete the waiver exam in August 2008, November 2008 and August 2009.
    • You may elect 500-level and above non-Business School courses at UM-Ann Arbor (up to a maximum of 10 credits throughout your MBA career). Courses from other graduate programs are listed in the University Time Schedule (http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/schedule/).

  2. Check Your Account for Financial Holds:
    1. Review your Student Account status on Wolverine Access to confirm that no Holds (Service Indicators) are in place which would block your registration into classes. Because of the University tuition payment dates, you should regularly review your account to be sure all payments and credits are properly attributed. Contact the Ross Financial Aid Office for more information or if you have questions.
    2. Clear your bills.
    3. Request that Student Financial Operations or the cashier lift your financial hold. This is not done automatically. Call 734-764-7447.

  3. Review the Schedule of Classes: On Monday, March 3 the Spring, Summer and Fall 2008 Schedule of Classes will be viewable on Wolverine Access and the Registrar's website. Please note that on the Registrar's website you may now download a CSV version of the schedule, which can be easily filtered/sorted to just the Evening MBA sections. Sections numbered 451 - 459 (Ann Arbor), 461 (Commerce Park), and 471 (Oakland County) identify the Evening MBA sections.
    • Cohort Participants: Students who were admitted in Winter 2008 and participated in the cohort pilot during the Winter 2008 term have the option to continue in the same cohort for Spring 2008 and will be pre-registered into one core course in the Spring 2008 term. Academic Services will notify cohort participants in mid-March regarding the specific cohort class assignments.
    • Check prerequisites: Course Prerequisites: You are responsible for meeting the course prerequisites for classes you elect. Check the Course Descriptions thoroughly for course prerequisites and feel free to reach out to an instructor if you have specific questions.
      • If a prerequisite is listed in the system as a "Course" prerequisite - Wolverine Access will NOT allow you to register for the course unless you have completed the course in a prior term.

      • If a prerequisite is "Advisory", Wolverine Access will allow you to enroll without having fulfilled the requirement; however, instructors reserve the right to remove you at a later (less convenient) date. Please review prerequisite information CAREFULLY, and contact the instructor/department or Academic Services if you have any questions.

    • Credit Limits: Evening MBA students who are in good academic standing may increase their credit limit to 9 credits in Fall or Winter terms and up to 7 credits in Spring or Summer half terms according to the following guidelines:

      • It may NOT be your first term in the program;
      • You must be in good academic standing, for which we expect at least 80% of your credit hours at PS level or higher;
        • Winter 2008 Admits who request a credit limit increase for Spring, Summer or Fall will not be approved until ALL their Winter grades are received (see dates below).
      • The additional hours (above 7 in Winter and Fall or above 3 in Spring or Summer half terms) may NOT be added before specified dates. We do this to allow some time after registration opens for all students to have an equal opportunity to register.
If you wish to have a credit increase for Spring, Summer or Fall 2008, send an email to rossacadservices@umich.edu.  State your 8-digit student ID number, name, and the specific term(s).  If your increase is approved, staff will enter the increases ASAP on the dates listed below. Because we receive many requests each term, we ask for your patience that day as we enter the increases.
      • Spring and Summer 2008 Credit Limit Increases:
        • Monday, April 7: Spring and Summer credit increase date for students admitted prior to Winter 2008
        • Friday, April 25 or later: Spring and Summer credit increase date for students admitted in Winter 2008. Increase is pending receipt and review of all Winter 2008 term grades.
      • Fall 2008 Credit Limit Increases:
        • Monday, April 28: Fall credit increase date for students with 35 CTP or more as of the end of the Winter 2008 term.
        • Monday, August 11: Fall credit increase date for students with less than 35 CTP as of the end of the Winter 2008 term.

II. Backpack: March 19 - 25 (return to top of page)

  1. View your assigned registration appointment time on Wolverine Access: March 19
  2. View your assigned core course registration (Cohort participants ONLY): March 19
  3. Backpack classes: March 19 through your assigned registration appointment time.
  4. Tuesday, March 25: Ensure that you have cleared any Financial Holds on your account.

III. Register for Spring, Summer and Fall Classes: March 26 - September 1 (return to top of page)

  1. Wednesday, March 26 - Friday, March 28: Registration appointment times begin for graduate students. Students will be able to add/drop courses via Wolverine Access.
  2. Drop/Add classes & obtain Permissions for closed classes: View the Registration Calendar as well as the Academic Calendar for the specific drop/add deadlines. After the drop/add deadline, students must submit a completed Drop/Add Verification Form to Academic Services and have a drop/add form (University Election Worksheet) signed by Academic Services. For more instructions on modifying your schedule and getting permissions for closed classes: **Remember: If you only have one class, and you want to change it for something else, you may need to do the ADD first, then proceed with the DROP. Otherwise, the system will think that your 'DROP' is a disenrollment (which it is, because you only have one class), and it would not allow the transaction to occur.  In order to truly disenroll from the term, please email rossacadservices@umich.edu for assistance.
  3. Be aware of Class Attendance Policies: At the discretion of the instructor, students may be dropped from a class if they do not attend the first class meeting for a once-a-week class, or the first two class meetings for a twice-a-week class. Be sure to review the CTools site for each class for additional attendance guidelines.
