Course Registration Timeline for Winter 2009

  1. Prepare for Course Registration (return to top of page)
    1. Review Degree Requirements & Meet with an Advisor: Be sure you're keeping your academic requirements in mind - review your Academic Requirements on Wolverine Access, the degree requirements checklist, and/or make a counseling appointment to review your status.  (*Dual Degree students or students completing an LSA Minor may have additional or different requirements than the below. Be sure to check with your advisor!)

      1. Core Courses: The requirements of our three-year BBA program include the following Sophomore sequence:

        FALL 2008 WINTER 2009
ACC 271 (3.0) - required in the Fall term if not completed prior to admission; students will be registered into ACC 271 by Academic Services. ACC 272 (3.0) - may be taken in Fall 2008 if ACC 271 is completed prior to admission, otherwise must be completed in Winter 2009.
ECON 102 (4.0) - we strongly recommend that students complete 102 in Fall, but it may be taken in Winter 2009 if space is not available to complete it in Fall 2008. ECON 102 (4.0) - MUST be completed in Winter 2009 if space is not available to complete it in Fall 2008.
BE 300 (3.0) - mandatory; students will be registered into BE 300 by Academic Services. LHC 250 (1.5) - mandatory; students will be registered into LHC 250 by Academic Services.
BIT 200 (1.5) - mandatory*; students will be registered into BIT 200 by Academic Services (* If EECS 181 has been completed, students are eligible to waive BIT 200). OMS 301 (3.0) - mandatory; students will be registered into OMS 301 by Academic Services.
Additional non-business coursework to complete degree requirements (e.g., Distribution & Foreign Language). Additional non-business coursework to complete degree requirements (e.g., Distribution & Foreign Language).

      2. Additional Requirements:
        • A minimum of 54 non-business credits (e.g. LS&A, Engineering, approved Kinesiology courses, etc.) are required in order to graduate.
        • Complete 3 of the 4 Distribution Requirements: Foreign Language (4th semester proficiency, see bullet below); Humanities (9 credits); Natural Science and/or MSA (9 credits); Social Science* (9 credits) *Excludes ECON 101 & 102.
          • Foreign Language Proficiency for distribution purposes (if you plan to meet one of the BBA distribution requirements with Foreign Language Proficiency): Check your unofficial transcript for notations regarding foreign language. If you have already met foreign language proficiency and it is not yet noted on your unofficial transcript, we need to receive confirmation from the language department. Please request that the language department send confirmation to Academic Services via email: rossacadservices@umich.edu, campus mail: Room E2540, 701 Tappan, or fax: 734-763-7804.
        • Non-U of M Transfer Credits: Review your Academic Requirements ASAP on Wolverine Access to make sure that any summer courses you took off-campus are now showing up on your record. The number of credits completed on your record will impact your assigned registration appointment time so it's to your benefit to make sure these are taken care of in advance. Contact Academic Services if you have questions regarding transfer credits.
      3. Check Your Account for Financial Holds:
        1. Review your Student Account status on Wolverine Access to confirm that no Holds (Service Indicators) are in place which would block your registration into classes. Check even if you are sure your statement is okay!
        2. Clear your bills.
        3. Request Student Financial Operations or the cashier to lift your financial hold. This is not done automatically. Call 734-764-7447.
      4. Contact Academic Services if you require schedule accommodation for documented Academic, Athletic, Health or Religious Conflicts: Students who require schedule changes to accommodate dual degree/minor, athletic, medical or religious obligations should submit documentation from authorized medical personnel, religious leader or organization, official coaches if your status as an official student athlete requires such accommodation, or an Academic Advisor indicating that a particular course is required in a certain term in order to complete a student's dual degree or minor. Letters should be submitted to Academic Services and we will make the necessary schedule changes.
      5. Review the Schedule of Classes: On Monday, October 20 the Winter 2009 Schedule of Classes will be viewable on Wolverine Access and the Registrar's website. Students may also utilize the LSA Course Guide (available October 31) in their schedule planning.
      6. Check prerequisites: You are responsible for meeting the course prerequisites for classes you elect. Check the Course Descriptions thoroughly for course prerequisites and feel free to reach out to an instructor if you have specific questions.
        • If a prerequisite is listed in the system as a "Course" prerequisite - Wolverine Access will NOT allow you to register for the course unless you have completed the course in a prior term.
        • If a prerequisite is "Advisory", Wolverine Access will allow you to enroll without having fulfilled the requirement; however, instructors reserve the right to remove you at a later (less convenient) date. Please review prerequisite information CAREFULLY, and contact the instructor/department or Academic Services if you have any questions.
        • Keep in mind that ALL 300-400 level Business electives require Junior and Senior standing as based on year in program, so are restricted to students in the second and third year of the BBA program. Current BBA Sophomores will be eligible for business electives starting in the Fall 2009 term.
      7. Remember core classes: In the Winter of your Sophomore year, you will take ACC 272 (3.0 credits - if not already completed), LHC 250 (1.5 credits), and OMS 301 (3.0 credits). You MUST also complete ECON 102 in Winter 2009 if not completed in Fall 2008.
      8. Course Load: A normal full-time course load is about 15 credit hours a term, with a maximum of 18 credits. You must select a minimum of 12 credit hours to be a full-time student. Going below 12 credits makes you a part-time student, which affects financial aid, degree progress, and (for international students) immigration status. To register for fewer than 12 credits in a term, you must request approval from Academic Services.
      9. Review your core course schedule on Wolverine Access: Mid-November. Sophomore BBAs will be pre-enrolled by Academic Services into the following core courses for Winter 2009:

        • ACC 272 = 3.0 credits
        • LHC 250 = 1.5 credits
        • OMS 301 = 3.0 credits

These courses will appear on your schedule in Wolverine Access BEFORE registration opens. Students MAY register for elective courses that conflict with their core, but should be aware of the requirements for resolving course conflicts. If you are unable to change a conflicting core, you may be required to drop the elective course at a later date.

OMS 301 Waiver Exam: A waiver exam for OMS 301 will be offered on Friday, November 21, from 3:00-5:30 pm in room W2740. The exam will cover material on the next semester (Winter ’09) OMS 301 syllabus. Students wishing to take the exam should e-mail their section instructor (Professor Sahin - Sections 1,2,3, Prof Morgan - Section 4, Prof Cetinkaya - Section 5) by noon on Wednesday, November 19. Please note that Academic Services is currently in the process of loading students into their core courses, therefore you should be able to view your Winter schedule and determine what section you are in by the end of the week. Students are permitted to use a calculator with basic math functions and up to five letter sized "cheat sheets" (both sides of the sheets can be used); no other devices (e.g. laptops, ipods), lecture notes or textbooks are allowed. In addition to the handouts (exam, answer sheet, and tables), students will be able to have a pencil, eraser, cheat sheets and a calculator on the desk during the exam. Everything else must be placed on the floor.

  2. Review Core Schedule and Backpack: November 10 - 19 (return to top of page)

    1. View your assigned registration appointment time on Wolverine Access: November 10
    2. Review your assigned core course schedule in Wolverine Access: In mid-November Academic Services will pre-register Sophomore BBA students into the three Winter core courses (ACC 272, LHC 250 and OMS 301).
    3. Backpack elective classes: November 10 through assigned registration appointment time.
    4. Wednesday, November 19: Ensure that you have cleared any Financial Holds on your account.

  3. Register for Winter Classes: November 20 - January 6

    1. Thursday, November 20 - Tuesday, December 9: Registration appointment times begin for undergraduate students. Students will be able to add classes via Wolverine Access.
    2. Begin to resolve any course conflicts between core courses and electives: Students who wish to change core sections to accommodate an elective class will need to identify a classmate in another section of the core who is willing to "swap" sections with them. To assist in identifying classmates willing to swap, a CTools site has been created to provide students with a discussion forum. Students will be able to join this site starting Monday, November 10.

NOTE: Academic Services will not accept emails regarding swap-partners until November 19. By sending the email to Academic Services that date or later, students are committing to making those changes to their schedule. We recommend that students arrange a swap only when they are sure they have a seat in the elective class of their choice. Sophomore registration won’t begin in Wolverine Access until late in November or early December, and it is risky to plan any swap before actually securing your seat in the desired specific elective course.

To join the CTools site (starting November 10), students will log in to https://CTools.umich.edu. Under "My Worksite", click on "Membership", then "Joinable Sites", and search for "BBA Core Conflicts". Click to "Join" the site. Use the "Discussion" forum to search for other students looking to swap sections. Once you have identified a "swap" partner, EACH student must individually send an email from his/her @UMICH.EDU email account to rossacadservices@umich.edu on or after NOVEMBER 19 to indicate that he/she is willing to switch sections. The email should indicate:
      1. Your name and UMID
      2. The name of the student with whom you have arranged a swap
      3. The course and section you are swapping OUT OF
      4. The section you are swapping INTO

*Reminder!! By sending the email to Academic Services, students are committing to making those changes to their schedule. We recommend that students arrange a swap only when they are sure they have a seat in the elective class of their choice.

    3. Add/Drop classes & obtain Permissions for closed classes: View the Registration Calendar as well as the Academic Calendar for the specific drop/add deadlines. After the drop/add deadline, you must have your drop/add form signed by Academic Services, and any drop must be accompanied by a completed Drop Verification Form (available from Academic Services). For more instructions on modifying your schedule and getting permissions for closed classes:
    4. Be aware of Class Attendance Policies: At the discretion of the instructor, students may be dropped from a class if they do not attend the first class meeting for a once-a-week class, or the first two class meetings for a twice-a-week class. Be sure to review the CTools site for each class for additional attendance guidelines.
