Challenges in business are rarely confined to one functional area.
Leaders must be armed with a holistic understanding of business to draw
upon fundamental knowledge, grasp the whole picture and see how pieces
interrelate. The Ross MBA curriculum is designed with this in mind. The
broad-based management approach ensures an integrated view of business
and the ability to implement those ideas to solve global business
issues. Ross offers the flexibility to focus studies on a certain
discipline or to broaden studies over a variety of disciplines.
The Most Effective MBA Program for
Sponsored Managers
The
Global MBA curriculum is the same as the standard Ross MBA. However, the
program schedule is carefully adapted and course locations are
meticulously selected to best meet the needs of managers who
will return to their employer/sponsor after receiving their MBA. With no
intention of changing career paths, the needs of sponsored MBA
students are distinctively different than other MBA students. To advance
their current career path, sponsored MBA students need to
develop personal relationships with managers both at global and
specialized companies, and with people of diverse business and cultural
backgrounds, as well as with faculty members. Ross Global MBA students'
strengthen their understanding of business culture on a global level.
Our mission is simple. We offer companies the most effective MBA program
for nurturing their next generation of leaders.
Student participation is the key throughout the program. Critical skills
are strengthened by working on collaborative, diverse teams with
world-renowned faculty and business leaders to solve real business
issues in real time. This process is known as action-based learning.
Through action-based learning, the valued case study is expanded beyond
the classroom. Rather than solving a pre-identified problem on paper,
students learn to recognize opportunities in real situations, manage
ambiguity and create original solutions. These defining leadership
characteristics are at the core of the Ross Global MBA approach.
Carefully
Designed Course Sequence
Students complete the required courses of the Ross MBA curriculum in the
first two terms-three months in Asia and another three months in Ann
Arbor. The status of the Global MBA students in these two terms is
'first year MBA.' Even though the curriculum is the same, the sequence
of the courses is modified to best meet the unique needs of the
students most of whom have not been exposed to US education system.
The program begins with an introduction to written and oral managerial
communications, establishing the groundwork for success in the program.
These communication courses stress fundamental theories and strategies
needed for effective communication in diverse management situations.
Successful completion of these courses satisfies the communication
requirement of the Ross MBA curriculum.
The program continues with quantitative courses and then gradually adds
non-quantitative courses which require more classroom discussion. This
process gives students time to adjust to an unfamiliar learning
environment. In Ross' highly energized and collaborative environment, the
core courses provide a rigorous educational experience that develops
knowledge and skills in every business function. Upon the successful
completion of the required core courses, students are ready to take any
of the MBA elective courses.
Upon the completion of the program
curriculum, optional four or six month research program is available for
the students who would like to conduct in-depth research in their
professional field. Participating students extend their stay in Ann
Arbor and conduct comprehensive research individually or as a group
under the supervision of a designated faculty.
Enhanced Global Exposure
Our efforts to maintain our title as the most effective MBA for
sponsored managers does not stop there. The first three months of the
program are offered at corporate training centers in three Asian
countries. For the session in Asia, we carefully create an atmosphere in
which students can fully immerse themselves in their studies, work in
teams functioning as an organizational unit, and deepen their
understanding of diverse Asian cultures and business practices. In
addition, students build the foundation for both professional and
personal relationships which will continue throughout their careers.
More than 80% of the program is offered in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is truly
a melting pot of diverse people, culture, thinking and ways of life.
Student learning extends well beyond the classroom. Throughout the
terms in Ann Arbor, students will also be exposed to endless
opportunities to get to know students and faculty members from over 100
countries and learn not just American culture but many other cultures.
