In the afternoon, the group took a guided bus tour of the city to introduce the downtown including some of the city’s historic areas, several buildings related to the automotive industry, and a few highlights of the entertainment district.
|Annual Global MBA Dinner Party|
ANN ARBOR, Michigan - Just hours after completing their MAP presentations, the Global MBA Class of 2010 joined Professor E. Han Kim for their final school sponsored event--the annual Global MBA Farewell/Welcome Dinner. Each June, students from two Global MBA classes are in Ann Arbor. One class is just beginning their 13-month session, while the other is completing it. During this overlap, Professor Kim hosts both classes to a dinner party in their honor. On June 24, the Class of 2010 was bid a fond farewell, as the Class of 2011 was welcomed to Ann Arbor. Professor Kim along with several Ross faculty were present to show their support. Throughout the dining room, students from both classes and their guests enjoyed good conversation, a delicious dinner, and engaging entertainment.
The Class of 2010 provided the entertainment for the evening. Junpitak Hataikarn of Krung Thai Bank and Carlos Posadas of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum lead the show which included class awards, a gift to the school, and a dance performance. Carlos and Junpitak narrated a video presentation that captured the emotions of their classmates in their final days of the program. In what is now a time-honored tradition, the class president, Jae Hyung Ham of S & K Polytec, on behalf of the entire Global MBA Class of 2010, presented a check as a gift to the school's art collection. Jae Hyung is shown below presenting the gift to then Associate Dean for Degree Programs, Valerie Suslow. Afterwards, Yasuhiro Miyaoka of Nomura Securities entertained guests with an upbeat dance performance accompanied by his partner. The middle picture shows graduates Takayuki Nakayama of Fujitsu, Keng-Chen Hsu of Longyan Construction, and Kee-Phal Tae of Asiana Airlines. At the conclusion of the evening, members of both classes gathered with faculty and staff for the picture below. Our warmest wishes go out to the Global MBA Class of 2010 as they return to their sponsors to rejoin the workforce.
|Leader in Thought and Action|
ARBOR, Michigan – On June 24, at the Global MBA Farewell/Welcome Dinner,
Professor Kim presented the Ross Leaders in Thought and Action Award to

Jae Hyung was recognized for the outstanding leadership skills he displayed throughout the program. As class president, he lead the class in social and academic events throughout the program; including offering his assistance with corporate and cultural tours in the Asia session. He actively pursued relationships outside of the comfort of the Global MBA class to expand his network to include MBA’s from all other Ross programs and his assistance in helping Class of 2011 students in acclimating to the program and in preparing for their experience in Ann Arbor was invaluable. We are grateful to Jae Hyung for his contributions to the program.
|Global MBA Participates in Ross' International Exchange Program|
ANN ARBOR, Michigan – If you asked recent
graduate Carlos Posadas of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum and the Global MBA
Class of 2010, what he thought of the MBA program he recently completed,
you might want to pull up a seat. From classroom discussions to hands-on
learning experiences to the international opportunities embedded in
Ross' MBA curriculum, Ross is truly unique. Ross' action-based learning
environment gave Carlos opportunities to study with elites from
companies across the world. In completing the core, he took courses in
Japan, China, Korea, and Ann Arbor with other students from Asia's top
companies. The experience included exposure to business and cultural
practices in each country. During the elective terms, he spent the fall
term in Ann Arbor completing Ross electives with all other second year
MBAs and the winter term in Barcelona, Spain at ESADE as a participant
of Ross’ International Exchange Program where he joined a community that
included students from top business schools around the world. For MAP,
Carlos joined a project in southern Florida hosted by a 1996 Ross MBA
alum. Throughout the MBA program, the opportunities for networking are
seemingly endless. |
Carlos shared his thoughts about the exchange program and the Ross School overall saying, “After an unforgettable experience in Japan, China, Korea, and Michigan, I decided to complete my winter term at a leading European business school. I chose ESADE for its reputation as a top international business school, for its intimate class size, to avoid Michigan’s sub-zero temperatures (which a Filipino may not be accustomed to), and for the opportunity to pick-up another language – Spanish. Overall, choosing Ross was one of the best decisions of my life with countless memories to treasure and a global network of friends to cherish for a lifetime.”
In the picture below left, Carlos is posing with classmates from his Spanish class. The center picture shows Carlos with other Ross MBAs who took advantage of his location to enjoy a quick break in Barcelona prior to their Global Projects course in Prague. The last picture shows Carlos with other ESADE exchange students enjoying a soccer match in Barcelona.
|Class of 2005 Reunion in Seoul|
recently heard from Masaki Mizutani of Mitsubishi UFJ Leasing and President
of the Global MBA Class of 2005 about their 5 year reunion. The reunion was
held in Seoul on June 5 and 6 with almost half of the class joining the
party. Those who couldn’t join were there in spirit providing cards,
messages, and photos to be shared with everyone the evening of the party.
The weekend started with dinner among friends and ended with a friendly golf
The class decided to create a website to share information, both professional and personal, so they can stay close until they physically get together again. The friends also committed to a 10-year reunion party to be held in 2015, the location is yet to be determined.
|Global MBA Alumni Meetings in Japan|
MBA Alumni in Japan have decided to meet regularly to enhance networking
among alumni. The meetings will include a lecture on a current topic as well
as professional and personal updates. The regularly scheduled meetings are
intended to benefit Global MBA alumni across classes. |
The first meeting was held on May 22, 2010 in the Global MBA office in Tokyo with Masaki Mizutani, President of the Class of 2005 and a General Manager within the Accounting Department at Mitsubishi UFJ Lease, leading the way. Discussion revolved around the topic of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and possible changes and opportunities. To add even more to the discussion, Masaki introduced his colleague, Trevor Tisseverasinghe, currently a Director of Financial Reporting at PricewaterhouseCoopers Aarata, to enhance the discussion. Participants enjoyed and appreciated the open format of the discussion which helped deepen their understanding of IFRS.
In addition to study meetings, this group will also chair annual events such as the freshman welcome party, golf competitions, and hosting professors. The next study meeting is scheduled for October 2 when Mitsuyo Yamamoto of Jyonan Electric and the Global MBA Class of 2006 will lead a discussion on Business Continuity Planning.
