  Christmas International House Homestay

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Global MBA, So Kogahara, of Nomura Securities took advantage of an opportunity promoted by the University of Michigan’s International Center to experience the Christmas holiday with an American family. Christmas International House is a program that matches host families with international students for a 2-week homestay during the Christmas holiday. The program offers students a chance to become acquainted with different areas of the United States while enjoying the company of their hosts, visiting in their homes, and sharing in their traditions. It is also an opportunity for the student to enlighten the host family about their homeland.
So celebrated the Christmas and New Year’s holiday with new American and International friends in Birmingham, Alabama. Spending time with the host family and their friends, So visited other American homes, attended dinner parties, and participated in volunteer activities. During his visit, So joined his host family in volunteering at a retirement home, wrapping gifts at a shopping mall, delivering Christmas presents to the poor, and providing presents to elementary school students whose homes had been damaged in a storm.
Thinking about his time in Birmingham, So is happy that he decided to take part in the program. He stated that the entire 2 weeks was a valuable experience, filled with many new opportunities, and that he is grateful for the generosity of the host family who showed him so much kindness. After such a wonderful experience, he said, “I would definitely recommend this program to other students!”

  Michigan Football

ANN ARBOR, Michigan - On November 10, 2012 the Global MBA Class of 2013 was lucky to experience both warm fall weather and an exciting football game. After filing up on pizza and football facts, together the group of Global MBA students, researchers, and staff enjoyed a short walk across town to the famed University of Michigan football stadium. Nicknamed “The Big House”, the stadium held a crowd of over 111,000 for the game that day. At half time our beloved Michigan Wolverines were down 10 points to the visiting Northwestern Wildcats, but that did not affect our spirit as we enjoyed the sunshine and company of friends.
After a thrilling 2nd half, the Wolverines were able to overcome the deficit and tie the score with only seven seconds left in the game. Northwestern was not able to score again before time ran out. With no time on the clock and the score tied, the game continued in overtime. In overtime play, each team receives one possession of the ball to attempt to score. Michigan received the ball first and successfully achieved a touchdown bringing the score to 38-31. The crowd went wild as Northwestern took possession. Northwestern dropped the ball and was unable to score ensuring a victory for the Wolverines. It was quite a fun and memorable event for all who attended.
