Asia Term Overview

The three month term in Asia is a unique feature of the program which makes the students experience rich both culturally and personally. Students spend four weeks each in Japan, China and Korea, living and studying together with their fellow classmates and the faculty members. This fosters the development of lifelong personal and professional relationships.

Arrangements throughout the entire term in Asia are handled by the school. Students only need to arrange their flights.  The school offers shuttles service to and from the airports, arranges lodging at carefully selected corporate training facilities, and provides all meals to students.  Each student has their own dorm room. Classroom, study and dining facilities are shared among classmates and faculty.

The faculty members fly in from Ann Arbor to teach the core courses. While teaching in Asia, faculty stay at the same facility as the students. The core courses offered in Asia and in the first three months of the time spent in Ann Arbor lay a firm foundation allowing students to take elective courses without restrictions during terms 3 and 4.

As a group, students and faculty engage in classroom and extracurricular activities, creating a unique environment of intellectual stimulation and development. The unique structure of our program allows students to build personal and professional relationships with classmates. This environment also allows students to fully focus on their coursework which is critical for students who are not familiar with Western teaching methodology and who speak English as a second language.

Students experience and learn about diverse Asian business and social culture while taking MBA courses. Weekend excursions are often planned by students and the school offers corporate and cultural tours at the end of each session. These encounters are often the most memorable experiences for our students as they gain better appreciation of other Asian business and social customs.

"The session in Asia offered me an opportunity to develop close ties with the other Global MBA students as we advanced through the core courses together. Collaborating with these students daily on coursework while living in the same dormitory and following the same schedule allowed us to really get to know one another. The three month term in Asia was one factor that originally attracted me to Ross and the relationships I have formed are one of the most valuable takeaways."
