The Michigan Advantage

Although most quantitatively-oriented operations or management science groups can make statements similar to our mission statement, the distinctive advantage at Michigan is our ability to support our words with action. With established infrastructure such as the Tauber Institute for Global Operations and Multi-disciplinary Action Projects (MAP), the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan can efficiently put faculty in touch with senior managers in a problem-solving context. This, without undue strain on research time, builds our faculty's institutional knowledge, credibility in the classroom, and ability to identify problems of high business relevance.

The Ross School of Business (RSB) mission statement is to train leaders in thought and action. The OMS department aligns with this mission by conducting research on problems drawn from our business contacts and student problem-solving teams, the end result being advances in theory (thought) and practice (action).
