Curriculum

The University of Michigan Business School BIT department holds two seven-week PhD seminars each semester in which it introduces topics of interest to its students and its faculty. To give you an idea of what these seminars are like, below are links for some sample seminars that we held a couple years ago:

Other Requirements

In addition to the advanced BIT courses and the two research papers that are a product of the 899 seminars, we expect students to fill in their research skills by taking Research Methods courses in addition to the Statistics requirements. Students also have a large set of classes he or she might take from other units at Michigan.

Typical Schedule

Over the course of two years, an incoming student without a business background would have a schedule that would look similar to the following:

Fall 1yr Winter 1yr Summer 1yr Fall 2yr Winter 2yr Summer 2yr
Finance OB Marketing in Exec Ed Econ 601 Cognate Research paper
IS course 1 IS course 2 Research paper Cognate IS course 3
Stat 425 Stat 426   Research Methods 850 IS course 4 or
Research Methods 860

899 899   899 899

Students with a stronger business background would have an opportunity to fill in a wider set of advanced BIT courses and cognates. We believe this common curriculum plus the customized research opportunities and cognates available make our program as strong as any in the world.
