Flexible Schedule

One of the main reasons behind the BIT area revamping its schedule is to make the core sequence easier for students to complete. (See this page for more information about the core sequence.) We have tried both to minimize pre-requisites among courses and to clarify what courses students must take in order to say that they are BIT concentrators. It is now possible to finish the BIT core sequence no matter which of the first three semesters at the Business School you begin taking BIT electives.

Here are three sample sequences of courses that a student might take from the BIT department, and still legitimately call him or herself a BIT concentrator:

Early BIT Concentrator With Elective Available in Fall of BBA-I

This person knows that he or she wants to take BIT courses and has two courses available in the Fall and Winter of his or her first year in the Business School.

Fall Winter
First year
BIT301Introduction (core)
BIT320Databases & information (core)
BIT311Excel
Second year
BIT355Programming (core)
BIT465Business systems consulting
BIT342Business telecommunications (core)
BIT358Human interface design

Early BIT Concentrator With No Elective Available in Fall of BBA-I

This person knows that he or she wants to take BIT courses but has only one course available in the Fall of his or her first year in the Business School.

Fall Winter
First year
BIT301Introduction (core)
BIT311Excel
Second year
BIT320Databases & information (core)
BIT355Programming (core)
BIT465Business systems consulting
BIT342Business telecommunications (core)
BIT358Human interface design

Late BIT Concentrator

This student might have come into the BBA program not knowing that he or should would enjoy BIT courses and the types of problems we work on. In any case, he or she discovers this before beginning his or her second year at the Business School. After taking the introductory class in the first year, the student can then take any number of BIT electives in the second year in addition to taking the three remaining BIT core courses.

Fall Winter

Second year
BIT320Databases & information (core)
