to the Business Economics and
Public Policy Group web site.


Our faculty comprises applied microeconomists whose areas of expertise span a range of fields. Our primary concern is the study of markets and firm behavior, with a strong commitment to the study of relevant public policies. Our Group has evolved to include experts in the areas of antitrust, contracting, environmental economics and regulation, health, labor, law and economics, organizational economics, productivity, taxation, and transition and developing economies.
 

DEPARTMENT NEWS


Marek Zapletal and Bo Zhao, both PhD students in our program, have received 2012 Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship in the amount of $20,000. each. Marek is receiving this fellowship for his work on "The Impact of Occupational Licensing Regulation on Entrepreneurship." Bo's dissertation is on "The Effects of State Innovation Programs on Entrepreneurial Firms: Three Essays" Fellows will be officially recognized at a reception at the upcoming Allied Social Science Association/American Economic Association annual meetings in Chicago, Illinois, January 6-9, 2012.

Martin Zimmerman- was elected to the position of Vice Chairman of the National Bureau of Economic Research. The term is for three years.


Kyle Handley - a new assistant professor joining in Summer 2012, is one of the winners of the WTO Essay Award for Young Economists 2011. See the complete article

His paper "Trade and Investment under Policy Uncertainty: Theory and Firm Evidence" (with Nuno Limao) also won the Jacquemin Chair Prize for Best Paper on Heterogeneous Firms and Trade Policy.
