faculty comprises applied microeconomists whose areas of expertise span a
range of fields. Our primary concern is the study of markets and firm
behavior, with a strong commitment to the study of relevant public policies. Our Group has evolved to include experts in
the areas of antitrust, contracting, environmental economics and regulation,
health, labor, law and economics, organizational economics, productivity,
taxation, and transition and developing economies. |

DEPARTMENT NEWS
Martin Zimmerman was appointed to a National Academy of Science
panel that is to advise the Department of Transportation (NHTSA) and EPA
on technologies for improving the fuel economy of medium and heavy-duty
trucks. This is a second phase of a study that was done in 2010 at
the request of Congress to provide input on the setting of standards for
medium and heavy-duty trucks.
In March,
Professor Francine Lafontaine was awarded an honorary doctorate from
the University of Rennes in France.
Michael Olabisi was offered a place at the next Advanced Graduate
Workshop on Globalization, Poverty and Development. For more on the

The Initiative for Policy Dialogue and its partners will be providing
travel to Bangalore India, as well as housing and sustenance for the
duration of the workshop (January 7 - 18, 2013).
